Commentary on Gay Marriage Today

I have always been one who felt that everyone should be allowed to be who and what they are. As long as no one is getting hurt what's the problem? Of course this isn't how the vast majority of the human race feel. It's the basic situation of "Us" vs "Them" syndrome. "We" can't be right unless there's someone who is wrong. One example of this is the whole Gay Marriage issue.

The so called "Family Values" people are against anything that isn't what they feel is the right and correct way. That's the foundation of the anti-Gay Marriage people. They claim that it will destroy the family and the society of the country and, by extension, the world. But this isn't the first time these claims have been made. Here's an article that shows this.
Why the Ugly Rhetoric Against Gay Marriage Is Familiar to this Historian of Miscegenation
By Peggy Pascoe
"The arguments white supremacists used to justify for miscegenation laws--that interracial marriages were contrary to God's will or somehow unnatural--are echoed today by the most conservative opponents of same-sex marriage. And supporters of same-sex marriage base their cases on the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, echoing the position the U.S. Supreme Court took when it declared miscegenation laws unconstitutional in the case of Loving v. Virginia."
You think this is an over reaction by Ms. Pascoe? Read these and instead of gay marriage substitute interracial marriage.
There's more if you search Google News.

Maybe I'm just living in Never Never Land with my Rose Colored Glasses but I just don't understand how people can be this closed minded and cruel.
