Sri Lanka's long war in bloody final climax

Sri Lanka's long war in bloody final climax | By C. Bryson Hull and Ranga Sirilal | COLOMBO (Reuters) – "Tamil Tiger rebels launched suicide attacks on Sunday against Sri Lankan troops fighting in the final battle of Asia's longest modern war, the military said.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to the country early on Sunday, the day after he said the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had been defeated militarily in the 25-year civil war, even as combat still raged in the island's northeast.

I hope this is a real ending to the civil war and not just more talk. It's not like Sri Lanka couldn't use some pieciful years after all that has happened.

P.S. Technically the longest modern war in Asia is the Korean War. It's in its 64th year.
